Short-Term Courses

GROUP SUPERVISION FOR SPIRITUAL DIRECTORS: We humans are complex, with many conscious and unconscious layers or “selves” within us.  In the spiritual direction relationship various aspects of both director and directee can come to the fore, affecting the direction relationship both positively and negatively.

Understanding some of the “selves” which are activated in our work as directors in response to directees can lessen the chance of overreacting to them and lead to a richer understanding of and sensitivity to the communication taking place in the sacred space that is spiritual direction.

The first two meetings of the group will focus on input from Roberto Assagioli’s concept of sub personalities.  The remaining sessions will be devoted to presentations by group members of their work with directees.  Hour One will be taken up with group feedback to the presenter.  Hour Two will concentrate on exploring the self-aspect/s evoked in the session just presented.

Ideally, presenters will bring a recording of a direction session and a transcript of a portion of the conversation on which they wish to focus.  If that is not possible, they are asked to furnish process notes.  All presenters will share their reflections and questions that arise about the session.

Wednesdays, January 13, 27; February 10, 24; March 10, 24; April 14, 28, 2010
6:30—8:30 PM  $270

Presenter: Pat Coughlin is a graduate of the Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago’s clinical training program and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois.  She is also a graduate of the Institute for Spiritual Leadership and has served in many teaching and supervisory roles here over the past twenty-five years.  A member of the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago, Pat has given spirituality and dream workshops in many countries around the world.

TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF DREAMS: Dreams are a unique and powerful way of experiencing the movement of God in our lives.  They are a source of insight as we seek to understand ourselves and others, and they offer us healing and guidance as we deal with everyday struggles and decisions.

During this course you will learn some practical ways of working with your dreams in order to discover the messages contained within the dream symbols.  You will also learn how to facilitate the dream exploration process with another individual and within a group setting.  Come with your dreams to explore!

Wednesdays, January 13, 20, 27; February 3, 10, 17, 24; March 3, 10, 17, 2010
7:00—8:30 PM  $250

ACTIVE IMAGINATION: The imagination, a faculty of the human psyche, is a doorway to the interior world of meaning and mystery.  Because image and symbol are the language of the soul, active imagination offers healing and wholeness throughout life’s journey.  This four-day workshop includes experiential activities and lectures.

SOULCOLLAGE® WORKSHOP is an expressive art process. Participants use collage to create, over time, a personal deck of unique, soul-tending cards—each representing an energy of one’s ongoing life story. The cards are grouped into four primary suits: images for inner parts or sub personalities; the seven chakras; archetypes that inspire us; and family, friends, mentors and other sentient beings with whom we’ve had important connection.  One can consult the images in a way that brings cognitive insights together with intuitive knowledge.  People take home a tool they can use in their daily lives to investigate and appreciate the workings of their inner selves.  This workshop includes theory, an experiential period, guided imagery, sharing, writing exercises, reflection, and tools for consulting one’s deck.

Saturday, March 20, 2010

9:00 AM—4:00 PM  $100
Presenter: Peg Lentz is an intuitive healer, a trained SoulCollage® facilitator, and a Spiritual Director certified from the Institute for Spiritual Leadership.  She trained under SoulCollage® founder, Seena Frost.
