Master of Arts

Loyola University Chicago, Institute of Pastoral Studies

Master of Arts in Spirituality/Spiritual Direction

Institute for Spiritual Leadership participants who qualify with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent may receive advanced standing status toward the Master of Arts in Spirituality degree offered through Loyola’s Institute of Pastoral Studies. The advanced standing credit granted for successful completion of the Institute for Spiritual Leadership Weekday program is equivalent of 18 credits. The advanced standing credit granted for the successful completion of the Institute for Spiritual Leadership Weekend program is equivalent of 12 credits. The spiritual direction track of the M.A. in Spirituality degree is 36 total credit hours.

Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies

Institute for Spiritual Leadership participants who qualify with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent may receive advanced standing status toward the Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies degree offered through Loyola’s Institute of Pastoral Studies. The advanced standing granted for successful completion of the Institute for Spiritual Leadership program is the equivalent of 12 credits. The M.P.S. degree is 30 total credit hours.

Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies

Participants who sucessfully complete a non-credit certificate through the Institute for Spiritual Leadership may apply for three semester hours for the pastoral care area requirement and for three semeter hours for the ministry practicum.

Doctor of Ministry

Chicago Theological Seminary

Those who attend the Institute for Spiritual Leadership may participate in a joint program in spiritual direction and spiritual leadership combining the Institute for Spiritual Leadership’s program and the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree at Chicago Theological Seminary, an ecumenical seminary related to the United Church of Christ.

Successful completion of the Institute for Spiritual Leadership Weekday program, either as a full-time or part-time participant, will be equivalent to three of the nine courses required for completion of the D.Min. degree. Admission to both institutions is required to participate in this joint program.

The Doctor of Ministry is an advanced professional degree. At a minimum, participants must possess Master of Divinity or equivalent degree(s). A major strength of the CTS program is its combining theological inquiry with flexibility in shaping individualized programs of study. Meadville Lombard Theological School

Individuals who complete the Institute for Spiritual Leadership Weekday program are eligible for credit toward the nine-course Doctor of Ministry degree offered by Meadville Lombard Theological School, affiliated with the University of Chicago and with the Unitarian Universalist Association.
